Some Stories about the origin of some company names:
Google, based in Mountain View California, confirmed in April 2006 that its Chinese Division would change its name to "Gu Ge" in Chinese. This means "the singing of the harvest", to attract even more users in the second market.
Sony in Japanese means "losing money"! The name Sony was chosen in 1953 because of "sun", the emblem of the Japanese flag. - The websites often have names with "oo" (Yahoo, Wanadoo, Ooshop ...) because it meets fashion. The technology brands do not want to appear as registered "old" but rather "cool and innovative" with soft tones.
Carrefour means in Chinese "the land of happiness"
MySpace China was forced to change his name and has confirmed that its Chinese name would be "Juyou" (in Chinese), which means making friends together.
Globalization leads brands to adopt new names fitting all languages. The Golden Rule is the following one: Do not shock the local cultures. Pajero (a Mitsubishi Model) means in Spanish "Garbage" for example.
